The vacancies
Working at Amsterdam Sailors means working at the city's most beautiful office: the Amsterdam canals. We are a small, personal shipping company with three historic ships and a clear standard — everything we do, we do well. We expect the same from our people.
But above all, it is simply fun work. We have a small, close-knit team where everyone works well together. Our guests come on board for a special day and disembark with a big smile — that makes the atmosphere on board almost always pleasant and relaxed. And you are regularly out in the fresh air, with the city as a backdrop.
We are looking for colleagues who, like us, believe that the difference lies in the details: a well-poured glass, a warm welcome, a cruise that is perfect from start to finish. No mass tourism, no assembly line — but private parties coming to celebrate a special day with us, which we make possible together.
Below you will find our open positions. Do you recognize yourself in this? Then we would love to get in touch with you.
Hostess
The face on board
As a hostess, together with the skipper, you are the face of Amsterdam Sailors. You welcome the guests, pour the drinks, serve the catering, and ensure that everything on board runs smoothly and is well-organized. From a business reception to a wedding: you turn every cruise into a day to look back on. Moreover, a job as a hostess is ideal as a student job. Shifts are flexible and sometimes only about four hours, perfect for working occasionally after a study day or on the weekend. What you do:
- Receive guests and make them feel welcome
- Pour drinks and make cocktails behind the bar
- Provide and serve catering
- Keep the boat neat and tidy
- Work with the skipper to ensure the cruise is a success What we ask of you:
- Experience in the hospitality industry
- A presentable, welcoming attitude
- Ability to work independently as well as be a team player
- Flexible availability, including weekends
- Good command of Dutch and English What we offer:
- Work in a unique location: the Amsterdam canals
- A close-knit, friendly team
- Flexible working hours, including evenings and weekends
- Compensatory salary
- Tips — not guaranteed, but in practice a nice addition
- No suit and tie, but an eye for polished and premium work Interested? Do you recognize yourself in one of these positions? Send your CV and a short cover letter to info@amsterdamsailors.com — we will contact you shortly.
Skipper
The captain of the day
As skipper, you are responsible for the ship, the route, and safety on board — and thus for the heart of the entire experience. You know the city, know which canal is at its most beautiful at any given time, and ensure that guests arrive at the right spots unnoticed. Together with the hostess, you form the team on board. What you will do:
- Safely and expertly navigate our vessels
- Determine the route and show guests the most beautiful side of Amsterdam
- Welcome guests and create a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere
- Collaborate with the hostess for a flawless cruise
- Take care of the vessel and equipment
- A valid VHF radio license (mandatory for all boats)
- For our sloops: Small Boating License 1, or the Open Touring Boat Skipper Qualification Certificate (limited sailing area)
- For the saloon boat: the Amsterdam Canal Type Touring Boat Qualification Certificate (limited sailing area), or a Large Boating License
- Good knowledge of the Amsterdam canals and navigation rules
- A professional, hospitable attitude
- Independent and responsible
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
- Working on historic vessels in a unique location
- A close-knit, friendly team team
- Competitive salary
- Tips — not guaranteed, but in practice a nice bonus
